Sue McGregor

My inspiration comes from my Australian lifestyle, open spaces, ‘the bush’ and beaches. I draw from both traditional and contemporary design: art, sculpture, clever detailing, texture and colour. I enjoy manipulating space to enhance its best features to adapt to its intended use.

I understand the investment and time a client has committed, so much of my work is bespoke; making sure the quality and finish reflects the client’s lifestyle. I also enjoy the challenge of using design to add monetary value to both residential and commercial developments; a flat, house, golf club or hotel.

I believe the space needs to express the needs of the client and their statement to the world, not mine.

Why Sue wanted to publish a book

‘As a first, publishing this book has been something of a milestone for me. I was very reluctant to start writing but once I had discussed it with clients and friends and realised it could be a helpful tool, I found the task of producing copy much less daunting.

‘Actually putting into print the design process has allowed me to consolidate over 20 years of work and tutoring and enabled me to reach a wider audience. Whether the reader is project managing a refurbishment or employing professionals, I hope this step-by-step process will help them focus on what they want to achieve and provide them with the confidence of decision making thereby gaining more control in the outcome of their physical environment.’

What Sue says about working with SRA Books

‘From beginning to end, Sue has made the process reassuring. Working closely with Mark Hobin we resolved issues I had not considered and have appreciated their attention to detail. The book has now evolved from its raw copy to one that I am proud to put in my handbag! From an initially daunting prospect Sue and her team have made the journey an enjoyable one.’
