Why Kate wanted to publish a book

‘Though I have always wanted to capture my ideas in a book, I wanted a purpose for writing it. I wrote A Buzz in the Building to give people interested in developing and growing their organisations something tangible where they could find, set out in one place, a coherent set of ideas and skills which together form a practical toolkit. The process of writing enabled me to consolidate my ideas, and has enhanced my ability to get them across to clients and potential clients in an engaging and understandable way. I’m keen to use the book to attract speaking opportunities and to draw people to our business who are keen to work with us. For me the book is the first step in communicating with people what we at Leaders Lab have to offer, and building a basis for a future working relationship.’

What Kate says about working with SRA Books

‘Writing a book represents a considerable investment in time and effort. Although I could have gone ahead on my own, I felt I really needed the reassuring guidance of a specialist publisher like Sue. In practice, most of her input seemed to consist of telling me I was already on the right lines – but without her support, I would never have had the confidence to carry on and finish the book in such a relatively short time.

‘Then, being something of a perfectionist and pedant, I really did not want to produce a book which had that self-published look. The professional support of the rest of the team at SRA ensured that the finished product was something I could be really proud of, from the cover design to the style and impeccability of the content itself. Packaging up the services in this way not only enabled a seamless process, but also – no small consideration – allowed us to spread the costs over several months and avoid last-minute surprises and unpleasant hold-ups.

‘As a busy consultant and business owner, the coordination of all the professionals needed to achieve this, and the learning curve involved, would have been too much pressure on me and on my business. I can honestly say the whole process has been a pleasure to participate in throughout.’
